Biography

Jim Brickman has revolutionized the sound of solo piano with his pop-style instrumentals and star studded vocal collaborations.

Since the release of his debut album “No Words” in 1994, Jim Brickman’s romantic piano sound has made him the best selling solo piano artist of our time.  His signature style of playing and songwriting has also brought him two Grammy nods, six Gold and Platinum albums, and 28 charted adult radio hits. He recently tied for most number one CDS on Billboard’s New Age chart, and currently holds four of its top ten spots.  Jim received top honors with two SESAC “Songwriter of the Year” awards, a Canadian Country Music Award and a Dove Award presented by the Gospel Music Association.

Jim's best-known compositions include the chart-toppers “Valentine,” “The Gift,” “Love of My Life,” “Simple Things” and “Peace.” He has established a reputation for his collaborations with many gifted musical artists that include: Martina McBride, Gerald Levert, Lady Antebellum, Matt Giraud, Michael W. Smith, Kenny Loggins, Carly Simon, Herb Alpert, Collin Raye, Michael Bolton, Sara Evans, Donny Osmond, Olivia Newton-John, and four American Idol Finalists.

A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Brickman began playing piano at the age of five and studied music at the prestigious Cleveland Institute of Music. He founded his own advertising music company in 1980, writing commercial jingles for such advertisers as McDonald’s, Pontiac and Kellogg’s.

A strong supporter of PBS, Jim has taped four concert specials for that network, which include Jim Brickman at the Magic Kingdom—The Disney Songbook (2005), My Romance, An Evening with Jim Brickman (2000) Love Songs and Lullabies (2002) and Beautiful World (2009).

Brickman’s highly anticipated album release, Home, a Target exclusive, will arrive in stores this October 2010. Home features an eclectic group of artists including American Idols Matt Giraud, award-winning country singer Ty Herndon, Australian pop singer Delta Goodrem and HLN Morning Express host Robin Meade. The first single off the album, “Thank You” featuring Giraud, was the #1 most added single on the Billboard/R&R charts during its first week at radio.

A song inspired by Jim’s fans, “Thank You” shares a universal message that’s memorable and without a doubt, a smash hit! “All these years, the fans applause has meant thank you to me! When they listen to the words, I hope each one knows this song was written especially for them.” said Jim.

Brickman has received international acclaim as a concert performer, taking his popular live concerts to more than 125 cities each year. He performed on his fifth sold-out Jim Brickman Cruise, a unique event that has become an annual fan favorite. Brickman teamed up with American Greetings lending his music to create some of their best-selling e-Cards to date.

Other artistic endeavors include a weekly radio show, Your Weekend, two best selling books, Simple Things and Love Notes, debuts at Carnegie Hall and the White House, as well as international touring from Spain to Thailand.  Jim lends a hand to several charitable foundations for children including Autism Speaks, UNICEF, and Camp Heartland.

Teacher and Students Thank You! Your music has been part of my life for many years. When I was in high school and college, I played your music when studying and it helped me block out distractions and relax. Now that I'm a teacher, I play your music in my classroom when my students are expected to work quietly. It's amazing the difference in my 3rd graders when your music in on, especially during writing. Thank you for many years of beautiful music, and here's to many more! Submitted By: Marie Achterberg

Why your music is so important to me! As a church pipe organist/pianist I find your music so very useful for weddings, prepreludes for church and just for my own healing of my heart when I am home alone at my own piano. Jim, you have a style that is so heart-inspired and yet so easily accessible to those of us who simply love to have those notes in front of us to inspire us to "Pretend" we are playing like you intended the music to sound. I started my music ministry at the age of 5 and at the age of 6 was placed on the piano bench in my hometown of Shelbyville, IL and God has led me ever since. I love both the pipe organ and piano and at this point in my life can't choose between the two instruments. My heart has become entangled between the two instruments and I attempt to prepare the Hearts and Minds of God's People for His Holy Word each time I sit down to play either instrument. Music is My Best Friend! With composer/artists like you . . . you give my heart encouragement to keep Serving and keep Loving my Best Friend .

Thank you Jim, I was thrilled to be your fly-away winner from CT. Your song Thank you says it all for me. It was the vacation that I had not taken in years. The weather was amazing and your music and guests were gracious and lovely. I was thrilled to meet Ty Herndon in the hotel after the concert. His words helped me put closure on a relationship that was not meant to be. I am newly sober once again and took a sober girlfriend with me on the trip...she had the time of her life also. Thank you again from the bottom of my heart. Sincerely yours, Sandra Dupuis Submitted By: Sandra Dupuis

Can't wait to see you in Omaha! What is there to say about your music? It touches your heart, hearing it reminds you of good times together with family and friends, brings you peace during those time of difficulty. My friend and I have seen you at least 10 times and are so very excited you will be in Omaha last year. Of course we saw you last year at the Lied Center in Lincoln. We are Becky and Becky. Hope you will have Anne and Tracy along again but know if you don't it will still be a spectacular show. We are also waiting for the dates of the 2011 cruise to be announced as we have decided to treat ourselves to that as well. Keep doing what you do so well as 'America's Most Romantic Piano Sensation' and again, we can't wait to see you on December 16!! Submitted By: Becky Grosserode

You Bring me to Tears! I saw you at your very first Concert at the Odeon Downtown Cleveland and had a front table seat. I then saw you a couple months later in Las Vegas at UNLV Meet & Greet with Anne Cochran. I've scene and heard you a few more times including this past weekend. I gotta tell you your music brings me to tears. It is sooo beautiful. I would love to learn how to play the piano. This past Saturday, i was with my younger sister and i had to take her home around 9:30 p.m. since she wasn't feeling well. I totally missed your performance and the fireworks but I did listen to your CD the rest of the evening in the car. God Bless you for putting so much beauty into the world!! Thank you for your music Hi Jim, I was introduced to your music many years ago when a bride asked me to learn "Angel Eyes" for her wedding march. Ever since that time, I totally fell in love with your music as both a pianist and a singer; I've also performed "Valentine" for many weddings. Your music definitely ignites a part of my soul that makes me want to play. Thank you for all that you do. I would love to meet you some day. The Alaska cruise looked fabulous. That would be something I definitely would love to do someday. Will you do this again? Submitted By: Lori Horne
