Celebrate Dolly Parton’s Birthday
Today is Dolly Parton’s 71st birthday and to celebrate I thought I would share my interview with Dolly Parton from this past November. I talked with the Queen of Country over the phone and she greeted me by saying, “What do you wanna ask me Jim cuz I’m ready to tell it.” It was such an honor to talk with such a talented artist and one of my inspirations. Plus there is a degree of separation between us after I did the collaboration with Kenny Rogers on the song “That Silent Night.”
We talked about so much during the interview, starting with the Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award she received at the 50th Country Music Awards. And she’s dedicated so much of her time to charitable causes like her Imagination Library organization. Dolly said that this is the one thing she’s most proud of. The inspiration for starting the Imagination Library came from her own relatives not being able to read and write. Even before Imagination Library she’s always wanted to give back to her roots and where she grew up. She set up multiple scholarships to encourage students to stay in school.
And of course we couldn’t leave out Dolly Parton’s holiday special “Christmas of Many
Colors: Circle of Love” that aired on NBC. This is the sequel to her special that aired in 2015 and Dolly shares what it’s like to create a movie for winter in the middle of summer! Plus will she decide to take this movie to the stage?
