Mary Higgins Clark
The iconic, the delightful, and the very royal queen of suspense Mary Higgins Clark spoke with Jim once again about her newest novel, Every Breath You Take. Listen to their interview below!
Jim Brickman: One of my favorite guests is back on the Jim Brickman show- the queen of suspense and No. 1 New York Times bestselling author, Mary Higgins Clark, hi Mary! It’s great to have you back on the show.
Mary Higgins Clark: Oh, Jim, it’s always a pleasure to be with you, you know that.
JB: Now you have this Under Suspense series, you’ve got the fourth book already out, I don’t know how you do it! This one is called Every Breath You Take. So give us an idea of whose story we’re actually prying into in this novel.
MHC: Alright, well, this story is set at the Metropolitan Gala, the most glorious event of the year, and the main character (as long as she lives), is a dowager of age 60- very attractive, with a 40-year-old boyfriend, and three children that are worried that [their mother] has told them she’s leaving all her money to charity. And a nephew, who shares their concern. And the boyfriend, who owes her a lot of money. And she goes up to the roof of the Met for a breath of fresh air, and when she was up there someone throws her over the edge. Now, Laurie gets in on the case, Laurie Moran, who is the detective in the Under Suspicion series. She’s told about the case, and the boyfriend comes in and says, “I loved her, I never would have hurt her, and I know that everyone thinks I did.” And that’s how the case falls into Laurie’s hands, and then we’ll see what happens.,
JB: And why did you decide to pick an event like the Met Gala for this mystery to take place?
MHC: Well, we thought it would be a glamorous setting, and it is! You know, we’ve never done anything quite like that, and you know, that is so glorious and festive, so we thought, let’s do it there!
JB: Mary Higgins Clark, we love talking to you, and I just don’t know how you write these books so quickly, it’s amazing and so great. The frouth Under Suspense novel is available now and there’s a lot more to it at maryhigginsclark.com. It’s the holiday season on the Jim Brickman show.
