Jim Brickman talks with singer/songwriter and former American Idol contestant Karen Rodriguez about her new single “Happy April Fools”
Jim Brickman – Well this is my favorite part of the show because I get to interview some amazingly talented artists and this weekend is no exception because I’m talking with Karen Rodriguez. Karen now you have a brand new single out and I love the name of this song “Happy April Fools.” And you know – it’s such a cool title, it’s intriguing. It makes you think ‘What is this about?’ So now a lot of people know you from American Idol, from Season 10, and that gave you national attention – and I want to talk about that but first up “Happy April Fools.” Tell us a little bit about the song.
Karen Rodriguez – So it’s actually a true story. I had set up to meet up with a guy at a party on April Fools Day and he never showed up! So the whole night I’m over here thinking he’s just playing a prank on me you know he’s going to come eventually and we had been texting and I said ‘Where are you? The party is almost over.” And he’s like ‘blah, blah, blah’ you know – he never showed up and I pretty much stayed there until the party was empty and I was so upset that I went home and wrote this song.
Jim Brickman – I like that, I like that. You know the true stories are always the best because they come from a really authentic place and that’s what’s so cool. So we’re talking with Karen Rodriguez and she has a brand new album out and you may have seen her on American Idol on Season 10.
